Marathonists are on route!

The thousand-headed group of World Championships marathonists have set off for the Marathon route in Lahti!
The peak has already crossed the finish line with excellent times, the whole trio finished the marathon in 2 ½ hours. The first runner to cross the finish line was the leading runner already at the halfpoint of the race, Mr. Sergei Preminov from Russia (M40 group, photo). Mr. Dennis Walmsley from Great Britain finished second (M45 group) and Mr. Lauri Friari from Finland finished third (M40 group). Congratulations for a great run!
Today, Saturday 8th of August 2009 is the Final Day of the World Championships. The true sportmanship atmosphere of the past two weeks will culminate today at the Lahti Citymarathon, which has already started at 9:00am and will continue until 15:00, the peak will be finished with their performance by noon though. There are approximately 1 000 runners on route, so definately there will be atmosphere! See the Marathon route below, and come and cheer the marathonists! There is also a lot of Championships program on the venues.
At the Stadium the program includes Relay Events, both 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m starting at 11:30, and also the final field events ; Men 60 + 65 age categories Triple Jump finals. Radiomäki Sport Field program includes 3 000m and 2 000m Steeple chase competitions, in Kisapuisto and at the Ice Hall field there is still Throwing Pentathlon in age categories Men 45 , 55 , 65 and 70 and in Women 55 – categorie.
