Celebration of the Midnight Sun
Posted by WMA2009 | Filed under News
Finland will be celebrating Midsummer, “juhannus” upcoming weekend, 19.-21.6. At the brightest festival of the year, people leave the hussle and rush of the city-life behind, and head to the countryside with family and friends, commonly to a summer cottage by a lake.
Part of the Midsummer traditions are delicious barbeque food, fresh drinks, Midsummer sauna together with birch whisks and of course enjoying the company of family and friends. Also, not to forget setting up of big or small bonfires, which are burnt at lakeside and by the sea! Also, many music festivals of all sizes are organized on the Midsummer weekend.
In Finland, Midsummer is celebrated as a festival of the summer. An important feature of the midsummer in Finland is the white night and the midnight sun. Because of Finland’s location spanning around the Arctic Circle the nights near the Midsummer Day are short or non-existent.
The office will also quiet down for Midsummer celebration from Thursday afternoon.
WMA2009 wishes everybody magical Midsummer dances!
