Women power at the Stadium

IMG_4483During the final day at the World Masters Athletic Championships, the atmosphere as well as the temperature has been high at the Stadium and the surrounding venues! Teams have been competiting in Relay Events at the Stadium, in both 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m. Women have already concluded their relays for these Championships 2009, Men will be competing at the 4 x 400m still this afternoon.  You can follow the results at the “Result Service” – link.

The Championships will be concluded today at the Closing Ceremony, which will be organized at the Stadium right after the final Award Ceremony.

Marathonists are on route!

IMG_1793The thousand-headed group of World Championships marathonists have set off for the Marathon route in Lahti!
The peak has already crossed the finish line with excellent times, the whole trio finished the marathon in 2 ½ hours. The first runner to cross the finish line was the leading runner already at the halfpoint of the race, Mr. Sergei Preminov from Russia (M40 group, photo). Mr. Dennis Walmsley from Great Britain finished second (M45 group) and Mr. Lauri Friari from Finland finished third (M40 group). Congratulations for a great run! Read more »

Mr. Arto Bryggare won silver in 100m hurdles Finals with a time 14,90

BryggareThe competitions of the 9th and at the same time the second last Competition Day were focused on the Stadium and at Kisapuisto Sport Field.
The sunny Friday started off at the Stadium with Women 75+ categorie Long Jump and Men 70+ Long Jump Finals. The Finnish hurdler, Mr. Arto Bryggare (in the photo) e.g. the silver medalist at the Helsinki World Championships in 1983 and pronze medalist at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, won the silver medal with a time 14,90. The gold medalist comes form Netherlands Antilles Alfred Philip Burgos with a time 14,85. The pronze medalist comes from the Netherlands Helmut Drabben with a time 15,08.

The administration of WMA changed largely

IMG_4400The General Assembly of World Master Athletic WMA, was arranged in Lahti on the Non-Competition Day of the World Master Athletic Championships. Jyväskylä got the honor to organize the World Masters Indoor Championships in 2012. The executive director of the Finnish Veterans’ Athletic Association Mr. Vesa Lappalainen was elected as the first vice president of WMA administration.
