The main, and the busiest, airport in Finland is the Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport. It is the leading long-haul airport in northern Europe. About 90% of Finland’s international air traffic uses Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

Helsinki-Vantaa to Lahti

The city of Lahti is located about an hour drive (90km) from the Helsinki – Vantaa airport. There is a convenient bus service between the airport and centre of Lahti. Buses depart from platform to Lahti every hour or more often (night time less frequently). Athletes and guests are offered the help of Lahti Attachées at the Airport and later on in Lahti. They are able to help you with any concerns you may have in many different languages. The attachées will have a WMA2009 Lahti Information Desk at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport Arrivals Lounge, where all the teams are able to receive information, for example about transportations between the airport and your accommodation location.

Note! The WMA2009 Lahti Information Desk is open as follows:
26.7. – 29.7.2009 : 07:00h – 23:00h
30.7. – 31.1.2009 : 12:00h – 20:00h

The transportation between Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and the City of Lahti will continue normally throughout the Championships, eventhough there is no Information Desk at the Airport! We have prepared for extra operating busses on most important arrival days, because there will be big amounts of atheletes and guests arriving on the first days. It is also recommended that guests are aware of this situation and are prepared for it.

There may be special additional buses available for larger teams, who made special arrangements with local time of entry.
